Unable to change login picture on new M2 MacBook Air

I've just updated my 2017 macbook air to the new m2 macbook air. I've been meaning to change my login picture that is on the lockscreen of the computer. When I go into 'users and groups' on system settings and click on my profile picture, nothing happens. I'm really confused as to why, and it bothers me that I'm not able to change it. Can someone please help?

I know of two ways to edit the user account picture.

1) Go to System Settings... and click the Apple Account pic at the top of the sidebar (next to your user name). Then click the larger picture that appears in the panel to the right to edit and change the picture.

2) Go to System Settings... > Users & Groups and click the picture next to your user account. The editing panel should open up so you can select something different.

If your computer doesn't seem to work as it should, then reboot it and try again.

If a simple reboot of your Mac doesn’t fix things, see if the problem still happens in safe mode.

Can you change the user icon while in Safe mode?

You can exit safe mode by restarting your Mac normally, then reevaluate the problem.
