Annoying pop-up "There is no application set to open the URL chrome-extension...."

When my Mac restarts I get repeated pop-ups with messages: "There is no application set to open the URL chrome-extension://ekhagklcjbdpajgpjgmbionohlpdbjgc/translateSandbox/translateSandbox.html."

I am not running Chrome, and have deleted the application. I have also deleted all the extensions to Chrome that I can find.

Still this pop-up comes. Where does it come from and how do I stop it happening?

Is this malware?

I'm on a MacBookPro running MacOS "15.3.1 (24D70)".

I've seen other threads with the same question, going back to 2021. But there so far seems to be no answer.

I do not know what the solution to this " There is no application set to open the URL chrome-extension://ekhagklcjbdpajgpjgmbionohlpdbjgc/translateSandbox/translateSandbox.html." " Issue

But I do know Malware does not automatically get installed on the computer without the Expressed Consent of the user ( you ) giving consent to installed

That would be done by entering the Computer Password and thereby bypassing the builtin protects in macOS 15 Sequoia

Mac app security enhancements are sufficient to protect computers from malware.

Adware and Malware can affect computers and are often downloaded from “shady” websites or developers who inject them into downloads.
