MacBook Air m2 HDMI to TV only allows low res screen mirror. Dell display works fine with same cable

When i try to connect to my tv with a usb-c -> hdmi dongle, i only get a choppy low res screen mirror. There is also no possibility to set the resolution.

When connected to my Dell monitor, using the same dongle and cable is works just fine. In the past is was able to connect to the tv using hdmi just fine.

This is with the tv connected (LG CX):

(The "When connected to TV" setting changes nothing)

This is with my Dell display:

Does anybody have any idea?

Are you certain that you are connecting to that TV via a cabled HDMI connection, and not via AirPlay?

There appear to be two entries for that TV, so I suspect that one of the choices is for the HDMI connection through the adapter, and the other is for AirPlay. AirPlay might not give you as many resolution choices as a cabled link, and also might give you a worse picture.
