I know there's a hundred posts about the iMac fan but I haven't found a solution. No, unplugging for 15 seconds doesn't work, command option P R doesn't work, Macs Fan Control doesn't work, the local Mac genius couldn't figure it out and the geek squad said to throw it out and buy a new one. Anyone have anything else to try?

Has the iMac been worked on, as in had the HDD replaced or some other component replaced...?
A failed, disconnected or missing temp. sensor will cause that problem.
What does the MacFanControl panel show for the temp. sensors..?
Are any in red or have a - mark instead of a temp. reading.

Take a Shift+Command+4 screenshot of the MacFanControl panel and post it using the Image insertion tool.

In order for a NVRAM reset to fully work, it must be done at least 2x back to back. If the computer is a 2017 or older, I agree it's time for a new machine as yours is obsolete and classified as a vintage machine.
FWIW, Apple & Authorized Apple Service Providers still repair 2020 Macs, so if you're will to pay for service…
It's never been worked on. The temps all look fine. The Mac fan control shows 0 rpm, but the fan will be at full speed.
It's a 2022 model. Figured it'd last longer than 2-3 years.

There was no 2022 iMac. The last 27" iMac was in 2020.
