Why doesn't Safari update my passwords automatically?

If I change a password on a website - I get the normal "update password" option from Safari - which simply does not.

I have to go into passwords - find that username/password and delete it and then create a new username password for said website.

Took me ages to figure out what the problem was - I though it was me but it's safari.
