Is there a way to use Microsoft Word with macOS Monterey?

Has anyone found a way to use Microsoft word with Monterey ? I’ve been told by Microsoft that this operating system is too old now to be compatible but loathe to buy a new computer just so I can use word again. Computer made 2017- bought in 2018 and this is the highest operating system it will take.

Currently can only open word docs as read only and I need them for ongoing projects! TIA 👍

No. You may be able to use the web based MS 365 apps (free from MS). You will not be able to install and activate any version of Office on a machine running Monterey.

Microsoft only supports the current and 2 previous versions of macOS.

Here are the Macs supported by macOS Ventura. There are some 2017 models in there.

From the Apple () menu > About This Mac panel, look at the product description line for your Mac model and year designation. Even if you could upgrade to Ventura, it will not be supported by Microsoft at some point in Fall 2025. At that time, no further Microsoft application updates would occur not making this a worthy investment.

SoftMaker provides a purchase or subscription Office 2024/Office NX suite for macOS that is an MS Office clone and is supported on Catalina and later. There is a free trial available.

LibreOffice is a deliberate clone of MS Office with robust support for Microsoft documents. It is not a work-alike, so there will be a learning curve for new document creation. The LibreOffice documentation was written in LibreOffice Writer and can be substantially helpful in navigating the product suite.
