When husband sends photo from MacBook using Messages, they don't send

My husband has a MacBook Air. When he attempts to send a photo to me or anyone else using Messages, it shows up in the recipient's messages as a blank bubble only. He has no problem sending photos from his iPhone. What can be causing this? The MacBook Air is just over a year old, and hasn't always done this.
