iPhone Mail not updating content; it loads old/deleted content into new mail item.

I am not sure how to word this, so let me try this:

1. I delete a piece of mail (latest iOS 18 on iPhone 12)
2. it brings up the next piece of mail in the inbox, but the content does not update. It gives me the content of the deleted email - for instance - here is a piece of mail I "received" from Apple:

Clearly, Apple is not offering cigar discounts.

It does this to me every day and it has for several months. Not every email, but about every tenth that I delete fails to load the actual content.

I am forced to go back to the mail list and click away at another piece of email and then when I click on Apple's email it finally refreshes and shows the actual content.

Yes, I have tried deleting my apple mail account from the phone and re-attaching it, no help.

Is this a known issue? Any help?
