Whether you're using a physical SIM or an eSIM, your mobile data consumption depends entirely on how you use your device. Activities like streaming videos, downloading large files, video calling, or using apps that constantly refresh in the background can quickly eat up data.
If you notice your data usage is getting very high and you're worried about exceeding your plan, you can take a few steps to manage it:
- Disable Mobile Data: Turn off cellular data when you don’t need it. This ensures apps only access the internet when you’re on Wi-Fi.
- Use Wi-Fi Whenever Possible: Connect to trusted Wi-Fi networks at home, work, or public spaces to save on mobile data.
- Turn Off Wi-Fi Assist: Wi-Fi Assist automatically switches to mobile data when your Wi-Fi signal is weak. This can lead to higher data usage without you realizing it. You can turn it off by going to Settings > Cellular > Wi-Fi Assist and toggling it off.
- Monitor Data Usage: Check which apps are using the most data by going to Settings > Cellular or Settings > Mobile Data. You can disable mobile data for specific apps if they’re consuming too much.
- Use Data Saver Mode: On iOS, Low Data Mode helps reduce background data usage. You can enable it under Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options > Low Data Mode.
- To see how much mobile data you've used, go to Settings > Mobile Data or Settings > Cellular. If you're using an iPad, you may see Settings > Mobile Data. Scroll down to find out which apps are using mobile data. If you don't want an app to use mobile data, you can turn it off for that app. Use mobile data on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support (IN)
