well I am unclear on where or what exactly, in a browser or if there is an app involved...

typically universally you can use the keyboard shortcuts if no track pad to zoom in or out:

Command + larger

Command - smaller

Command 0 default

Where do you see this "book"? In the Books app? In some other book reader? In some other app entirely? Impossible to understand what you are talking about with so little into.
