When it comes to ergonomics, a lot of factors come into play.

Chair height, desk height, screen height and mouse height.

If you are getting wrist cramps or have carpal tunnel? Then perhaps a Logitech Scroll Ball Mouse will help.

+1 on den.thed's comments.

Among other factors are hand size, finger length relative to palm size, mobility issues (displaced or fused joints; loss of motion), and more.

My method is to go to an office "superstore" that has a mouse display. A Staples store near us does. Although you cannot try the mouse for position and comfort relative to your workspace. You can get a good idea of how shape and control/button locations work for your hand size and limitations, if any.

We've used Logitech mice for years. I also recommend them. Good reputation for MacOS support.
