Absurd complexity in adding a contact to 'favorite' on Iphone 16

Just got a new Iphone and cannot understand why Apple made adding favorites so incredibly complex, requiring one to choose to save "phone" or "email" or "message" rather than the entire card at once, as it used to be. At least, add an option to save the entire card in favorites -- or am I missing something obvious???

iPhone 12 mini, iOS 17

  • "to choose to save" ... what? A contact card that comes from some other Apple source?
  • "rather than the entire card at once" ... If that's a card already in your Contacts, then there is still "Add to Favorites" near the bottom.

Appreciate quick reply, but when I tap "add to favorites" on a contact's card, a window pops up with a list -- message, call, video, mail. Then, when I tap the carrot, for example, on 'call' it wants me to choose which number I want to add to favorites. Ditto for each category. On my old Iphone, I just tapped on 'add to favorites' and the entire card was added, allowing me to later choose whether I wanted to send a text, email or phone. This is just terribly time consuming.
