Unable to save images scanned using Plustek 8200i AI scanner to my MacBook Pro

I am using a plustek OpticFilm 8200i scanner on a macbook pro running Sequoia 15.3.

I am able to scan images successfully; however, no matter where I direct the images to save to (desktop folder, pictures folder, on a hard drive), they don't show up.

What does happen is that even though I have set up a path to save in a particular location, in the scanner status window (bottom left) it says images are going to: Users/MyName/Library/Cloud ... (but that is all I can see of the location as the rest of the path is obscured and can't be hovered over to read the rest).

I am unable to locate the scans.

Has anyone encountered this or know how to address the override to the save path?

I've finally located the path to where the images are saved. They're not going to the cloud but to the desktop folder I've set. I don't use iCloud drive and don't really understand how it works which is why i avoid using it

Well, they are going to the cloud. The One Drive cloud. That much is clear from the path you found. AFAIK, OneDrive Cloud Desktop does not show your files on your "real" Desktop, which would explain why you don't see them there.

I wouldn't save scans there. The ~/Library is a hidden folder for a reason, it is not intended for general purpose use via the Finder (meaning users should generally not themselves manipulate content in ~/Library). I'd keep my scans local on my Mac in a folder set up specifically for saving scans and other images - a folder that is NOT sync'd by One Drive. Something like /Users/georgiawillis/Scans

You may want to check your One Drive preferences settings. If it's set to sync Desktop, Documents & Pictures that's why everything saved to those locations is saved to One Drive.

Don't create the folder on your Desktop. That's problematic with your apparent use of OneDrive Desktop.

Create a new folder at /Users/georgiawillis as I suggested earlier. Then try directing your scans to that folder.

Have you ever tried using Vuescan? It supports your OpticFilm 8200i as well as hundreds of other scanners. It has been my preferred scanning app for many years including multiple scanners, Macs & versions of macOS.

I also have, and occasionally use, Silverfast 8 & 9Ai ... but probably do 95%+ of my scanning with Vuescan. It does everything I need it to do and it's a lot easier than Silverfast.

Looking at the 1990s Silverfast user interface makes me glad I have been using VueScan Professional since 2010… 😉

Yes. It has always seemed to me to be a mashup of 30-year-old Windows & OS9 screen designs.

The other things that annoy me about Silverfast are the sheer expense of the product, the fact that you have to buy a separate license for every scanner and the difficulty of use. Thank goodness Epson included a copy of Ai Studio 9 & two iT8 targets with my Epson 12000XL. To purchase Silverfast + targets separately would have cost over $550. By comparison, at $150, Vuescan Professional with lifetime upgrades is a steal. I've gotten so much use out of Vuescan over the years that I even joined the Vuescan Supporter Program.

I purchased the upgrade this morning before checking out vuescan. Agree about the clunky and not user friendly interface for Silverfast. It's really bad. At least I've got the scans now and think it wasn't working because the driver needed to be updated. It took them about four emails before telling me this though ... sigh

Maybe it's no longer working with this OS? I am certainly having other issues with the scanner not performing, such as not getting a preview and it changing the save path all the time..

I see Silverfast 9 and Silverfast AI Studio 9 now support macOS Sequoia v15.* for the OpticFilm 8200i.

For my Pacific Image Electric Prime Film XA Plus, Silverfast only supports up to Monterey, which is why I use the PIE CyberViewX software in combination with the current VueScan Professional scanning software on my Intel iMac that is running Sequoia v15.3.1. PIE has not updated its CyberViewX software to provide an ARM plugin that VueScan requires on an Apple Silicon Mac. PIE has indicated they are working on it though for the Spring release.
