Failure to save in pages when several documents open

Does anyone know how to stop pages joining together in one window? 3 times I have lost a days work because I now realise the save button doesn't work when there are several documents on it,

I have just realised that it works when a single document is open but not when several are pinned together. This has cause me enormous stress and I am incredibly disappointed in Apple for the first time.

These updates are unnecessary for me and each time I have to invest in learning updates that mostly I dont want or need.

After losing a lot of work I now have to work my documents again starting from the beginning.... yes I have tried retrieving on Time Machine and they are not there. pushing the save button at regular intervals does not save the work done so far when you have more than one document in this new style window. Using the old way of closing the document means I lost all my work. So disappointed ...... to change something so crucial without fail safe is almost criminal!

Can some please tell me how to stop my pages documents open in one window so that I dont have this problem any more.

When you start a new Pages document, it is best to initially save it from the File menu and give it a proper document name other than "Untitled" and note the save location. This will enable autosave and auto versioning of that document for the current and future editing episodes. Failure to do that and exiting Pages without autosave enabled will lose content.

With that said, are you referring to having multiple Pages documents open in tabs within a single window with your "pinned" description?

Presuming the first paragraph, if you have other opened and previously saved Pages documents, and continue to make changes to each, autosave should be working on those individually active documents too.

I think the issue is that previous to the update I would open a couple of documents at a time to compare. the save works on individual documents. The problem is that in the new format of tabs for all open documents.... I did what I use to do which is close the window when finished and in the past that meant it was saved as I had auto save on. Now using the read cross in the top loft hand corner to close all the tabs open DOESN'T SAVE ANY CHANGES. Pressing save at regular intervals when working on the document didnt work either when there were tabs of pages documents open. Changes are only saved if documents are closed individually.

That is how I managed to lose loads of work and I couldn't figure out what happened. Now I know ... but it generated huge amounts of work for me.... there were no previous version available either as it was newly created!
