Unread Mail Count on iPhone iOS 18.3.1

This is a small -- yet annoying -- problem that just started. The unread mail indicator on the mail app on my iPhone Home Screen doesn't reflect the actual number of unread messages. If I go into the mail app and filter by 'Unread' I have 9 messages. The indicator on the Home Screen is stuck at 2. The indicator on my Mac Mini still shows the correct count.

That’s because the default setting is to only count email in the Primary category. To change this go to Settings/Notifications/Mail/Customize Notifications and change to All Unread Messages.

Alternatively, go to Mail and open an inbox. Tap the ⋯⃝ in the upper right and go back to List View without the categories.
