How can I fix Safari search issues while using Xfinity on MacBook Air?

I'm suspecting Xfinity did some kind of "enhancement" upgrade, and screwed up. I had this happen about a year or so ago. It was quietly fixed, with no updates. Xfinity does this across multiple platforms. It seems they "push" these upgrades with little or no Beta testing.

Based upon previous experiences, this is not an Apple issue. This is an Xfinity issue, they will try to shift the blame.

By doing this, you will at least add to the number of complaints. I'm not saying they will fix it any quicker (they won't), but they will see the number of dissatisfied customers.
