iMessage/Messages history completely disappeared on Mac -- any way to retrieve?

All of my messages prior to yesterday have disappeared from Messages on my MacBook Pro (14-inch, 2021, M1 Pro running Sequoia 15.3.1 (24D70)). The messages all still appear on my iPhone. I've tried:

  • Rebooting
  • Signing out of iMessage and logging back in
  • Signing out of iMessage, rebooting, logging back in

The issue still persists -- only see messages up to and including yesterday.

Any thoughts/ideas???

Okay -- just in case anyone else runs into this problem -- here's how I fixed it:

  1. Launch Messages.app > Settings > iMessage > Sign Out
  2. System Settings > <your name> Apple Account > Messages
  3. Use on the Mac > OFF
  4. Reboot
  5. Launch Messages.app > Settings > iMessage > Sign In
  6. System Settings > <your name> Apple Account > Messages
  7. Use on the Mac > ON
