ALAC music files uploaded to iCloud

I have been ripping CD’s that are not available in Apple Music using the Apple Lossless import function into iTunes on a Windows PC. Those files then synch with iCloud and are available to be played on my iPad which is the source for my home stereo system which is connected wirelessly to my wireless router which connects the system to Apple Music.

I noticed another post which indicated that I would not get the benefit of ALAC files not rendered from Apple Music.

Is that true?
