Mac Mail not working with Exchange

My Outlook Mail was working fine until this morning. I added the account when I got my new Mac a few months ago and did that through the Exchange option as directed. Today the mail app is not working at all and will not even allow me to delete emails.

OK - issue is supposedly fixed. Had to delete "Authenticator" to get my wife's iPhone working.


These are the steps to get rid of "Multi-Factor Authentication" - which was going into a loop on my wife's phone:

Follow the above link to disable security defaults.


Then delete the account - reboot the phone, add the account - should work.

Thanks for your quick replies. I reluctantly went through the task of deleting and re-adding my email account again. I did this the first time to add the account and then had to do it again at some point over the past two months. Now I'm doing it a third time. Ugh. It worked, yes, but why should we have to do this more than once?! It will be downloading all of the emails for days re-syncing everything.

I have three MS 365 mail accounts via GoDaddy. Been a mess for about three days - keep asking me to Authenticate an account, and going through a loop on one of the accounts. Very poor instructions, and easy to take the wrong step.

Would love to shift to another service - as I have personalized mail URLs, not that easy.

Anyone got any ideas - gmail or iCloud?

There have been issues with Microsoft IMAP accounts for at least the past year because of their switch to Oauth authentication. The instructions tell you to use Exchange for personal accounts even if you don't have an Exchange account.


The new piece of this for many of us is that we are having to do this multiple times. It gets resolved but it's a pain.


Hopefully they'll come up with a solution soon. I've had my email for decades and I'm not interested in switching. I'm a heavy OneDrive user and I'm very happy with it. Having Office 365 I don't have to pay anything extra for my OneDrive storage.


As far as Gmail, I would rather delete and add my live.com account everyday than switch to it. I have a few gmail accounts and they are a royal pain. I run them through yahoo so I can survive lol. I have iCloud and could switch to that as a last resort. It works well and I haven't had any problems using it.
