HDR image display not working in Preview.app on M1 MacBook Air with macOS 15.3.1

This repeats mostly Images not display in HDR mode anymore si… - Apple Community but now it is limited to the Preview.app as in Chrome the HDR display still works fine.

The Preview.app worked fine on this M1 Macbook Air on macOS 15.3 but now on 15.3.1 only shows the very same images as SDR only. Clearly verified by comparing the display with Chrome where HDR works and Safari where HDR is not used as expected as it only supports SDR. Also still the same problem after shutdown and restart the Mac.

Interestingly it works fine with Preview.app when moving the app window from an external HDR-capable screen to the built-in M1 screen, then it stays in HDR, of course lower than on my external display, but still HDR. Then when disconnecting the M1 it still shows HDR but as soon I restart Preview.app it's back to SDR.

On a M2 Pro Macbook, Preview.app with the same images work fine on the same macOS 15.3.1.
