Why is ANC mode not working with both AirPods in?

I tried to turn on ANC mode but it says i have to have both airpods in. Both airpods were in!!! And these are very new so it’s not dirty or anything and these are authentic as well so i don’t know why it’s not working? It is getting very frustrating please help me!
