"Choppy" video playback while using the Apple TV app

I rented a 1080p movie off the iTunes Store a few days ago. When I watched it, the video appears to glitch out on an intermittent basis. Basically, every few minutes it repeats the last few frames over and over very quickly while the audio remains in-sync, before returning back to normal. This has never occurred to me before, even on other streaming apps.
