MacBook Air M2 with macOS Sonoma lags after prolonged use

I recently bought a Macbook Air M2 running MacOS Sonoma and have noticed my laptop slows down a lot. After editing PowerPoint and using Chrome for around an hour, my Mac will start lagging and slowing down drastically making it hard for me to continue editing. Even after quitting all apps, the Mac will continue to lag, even just moving the mouse across the screen, until I restart the computer. Is there anything I can do to fix this?
