Gray box whilst typing in Facebook on iPhone

You you've never been paranoid, but what you said is exactly that, paranoia. Don't subscribe to conspiracy theories, but do read the post just above your post, especially, the link from snopes attached to it.

Same here, in the USA. iPhone 14 Pro Max. Seemed to show up with the last iOS update 18.3.1.

If it only occurs on iOS then it’s an apple coding issue. It wouldn’t be the first time that apple changed coding and screwed up third party apps in the process. It occurs with EVERY update!

While this does happen in Facebook, it occurs in other applications as well. It's not a Facebook App issue.

Started after I updated phone. Every update comes with something that messes up. Just leave functional alone

It's not wierd, it's a software glitch.

I’ve been getting the grey box over the past week. I wondered if it was a glitch in the update. If I switched off and on, it seemed to initially disappear, but then came back again!’

I did see that comment after and I did an update, It helped. I still don’t think it’s a bad idea to secure our phones.

I'm not sure WHY you may be upset with Apple over this? Apple MUST follow the laws in the countries they do business. YOUR Government made this decision. Complain to your Government.

The gray box just started on my iPhone a few days ago. When I write a new post the gray box covers the part of the draft post that is finished. I can continue writing a new sentence, but as soon as I’m finished the gray box keeps moving along.

The British Govt asked Apple to allow them a back door access to the fully secure encryption service. Rather than comply, Apple withdrew the service from UK users. They have not allowed the access. I wasn't using the fully secure encryption so the Govt has no more or less access than they had before. What proof do you have that if they were access our data they would leave a grey box behind to alert us?

Sorry, but conspiracy theories aren't permitted here. It's happening here in the US with Facebook users. It has NOTHING to do with the UK Government's quest to access user data. This has EVERYTHING to do with Facebook.

I think you are replying to someone else. My problem started with a text on my IPhone getting that gray box. Then my iPad. now when I comment on FB. It isn’t every time, it is sporadic. Maybe I made a mistake by replying to a thread in the wrong way…this is my first time. But my problem started with texting on my phone.

My apologies, I thought you were the one trying to turn this into a UK data topic. This issue seems pretty common on Facebook lately as there are a number of threads on this. But it shouldn't be happening on the standard text message app. I haven't seen anyone else suggest they are getting the gray box on text messages using the Apple Messages app. So that is different, if you are.

What you are ignoring is that the Govt had access to people’s data before Apple withdrew advanced data protection; if people didn’t opt to pay for Advanced Data Protection their data wasn’t protected by it. So why are you so convinced it’s a result of the recent court order?
