Why can't I access Apple TV subscription content on my MacBook?

My wife and I have a subscription to Apple TV. I’m working away and cannot watch content without paying. At home, most content is part of the subscription but not on my MacBook. Am I doing something wrong?

Hi, I have recently came across this problem and found it to be an issue with family sharing.

First, make sure that your MacBook is signed into your Apple ID.

Next, make sure that you and your wife are on the same iCloud family

Finally, make sure Apple TV is included in the shared subscriptions within the iCloud family

Hopefully this is of help.

Apple really has a way of making you feel like you’re trying to break into your own house sometimes. It should just work, but of course, here we are. Have you checked that you’re logged into the right Apple ID? Sometimes it’ll randomly log you out or switch accounts if you’ve got multiple. Also, if you’re in a different country, some content might not be available due to those lovely licensing restrictions. If all else fails, the old log-out-and-log-back-in move might do the trick. Classic IT fix, but hey, sometimes it actually works. Hope you get back to watching soon, man!

Yeah, that could definitely be it. If you’ve got two Apple accounts, your Mac might be using the wrong one for Apple TV. Try signing out in the TV app (top menu > Account > Sign Out) and logging back in with the right Apple ID. Also, if you’re using Family Sharing, double-check that the subscription is actually shared.
