apple pay charge Apple store

Hello, I just invoked and used the Apple Pay app yesterday and now today I received a text message that says it’s from the Apple Care team which says that my Apple ID was charged with $163.66 via Apple Pay at the Apple Store. I made no such purchase from the Apple Store, so what’s this about?? Is this a scam or is this legitimately from the AppleCare support team? The text message came from a 978 area code telephone number. It also provides a link to an 855 area code number to call if it was not me, but I am reluctant to press that link for fear of malware.Btw, this charge does not show up on my real credit card statement, or at least not yet. Has anyone else had such an experience?? And if it is a scam, how would a scammer found out that I invoked and are used Apple Pay??Thank you for a quick response.

There is no such thing as an Apple Pay app.

Apple doesn’t send messages like that. It’s scammers doing what’s called a phishing scam. The unfortunate part is you believe it might be real. Apple doesn’t send messages or texts and/or emails like that.

Everyone gets phishing attempts like that. I get three or four a week and sometimes more. You block the sender, report as junk and delete it. Never interact with the message and never click on a link. If you have doubts, dial 1-800-MY-APPLE and confirm directly with Apple.

Please review the information in the Apple Support article I linked to below.
