How to recover missing contacts on iPhone and MacBook?

Several contacts have just disappeared from my iPhone and MacBook. Not many so far, I have only found 2 but I feel sure there are more. What happened, and how do I correct?

Have lost some contacts. How do I restore somehow have lost some of my contacts. I do I restore? Thanks
