Force quit Google Drive for uninstalled and reinstalled

I have tried almost every possible way I can think of, and I still cannot figure out how to remove and reinstall GD in my mini. The app has not been responding for a while. I give up and move on to work on my MacBook Pro now, for weeks. Today I decided to re-engage and, not to my surprise, came back to the same dead end. I keep getting a message: GD cannot be removed because it is still open. I can't close it because it is unresponsive. Using Ctrl+Alt+Delete is the obvious choice, but the app won't appear in the list of open apps to force-close. I am sure there is another way, but it is beyond my knowledge. I would greatly value your feedback. Thank you.

I discovered the solution through ChatGPT. Please see below, just in case you come across a similar issue. My GD is back online with a fresh installation and synced functionality.

Step 1: Force Quit GD (Even if It’s Not Visible in Force Quit Menu)

Sometimes, apps run in the background and don't appear in the Force Quit menu (Cmd+Option+Esc). Let’s use Activity Monitor instead:

  1. Open Activity Monitor
    • Press Cmd + Space and type Activity Monitor, then press Return.
    • Alternatively, go to Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor.
  1. Find GD (Google Drive or related process)
    • In the CPU tab, look for any processes related to "GD" or "Google Drive" (or whatever GD stands for).
    • If unsure, type GD or Google in the search bar.
  1. Force Quit the Process
    • Select the process and click the (X) button at the top.
    • Choose Force Quit.
  1. Check if GD is still running
    • If it reopens automatically, check for any helper apps (like "Google Drive Helper" or "Google Updater") and force quit those too.

Step 2: Prevent GD from Launching on Startup

If the app is still running, it might be set to launch at login. Let’s disable it:

  1. Go to System Settings > General > Login Items.
  2. Look for GD or any related apps.
  3. Click the (–) button to remove them.
