My old MacBook froze and screen is unresponsive.

How do I shut it down so I can restart it? It’s been having “sleep” problems. I tried holding the power button and the screen goes black after awhile, but computer doesn’t turn off. I also tried the ESC button. And there was something like hold control, shift and option for 7 seconds, then power button for another 7 seconds, then release all. It is still frozen.

Not sure the year of the MacBook.

I just tried “Command W” which is supposed to close the front window, that did nothing. The screen goes black, I shut the lid, open the lid and the screen is back, but mouse curser won’t move. I finally unplugged it, I think that’s helped in past. Once it shuts down, I can recharge it, then maybe I can restart it.

Also I have too many windows open.
