Get rid of icon at top of messages

Do you mean in the Messages app? If so, that means that you've pinned someone to the top of the screen.

Put your finger on the icon, press and hold. From the menu that pops up, select "Unpin."

That looks like the email client, and I think this thread was started about Messages, at least this is the Messages forum.

I'm guessing the issue was a pinned message accidentally in their conversation list, that happens to people a lot. To the OP just long press on the icon and "UNPIN" the conversation.

I am not clear about which icon you are referring to. See the pic below and answer so that someone else can address your query.

To improve my understanding of the phenomenon, it would be highly beneficial if you could share a full screenshot (Do not crop it). Visual representations carry a greater impact than written descriptions.
