How can I remove carrier voicemail feature from my iPhone?

I am having problems with my Phone carriers voicemail feature. I have asked them to remove it, and then I would use the “default” that comes with the iPhone, but they can’t seem to remove it(after 4 or more attempts with their Tech Support). They offered no solution, and just said “we can’t seem to remove it”.

So, without iCloud, is there a way for me to backup my iPhone to my iMac, do a factory reset, and restore without bringing their “voicemail software” back to the iPhone? Or is there a beter way?

Even if your carrier could remove the voicemail feature, there would be no way for callers to leave a message for you when they call.

The "default" that comes with the phone is to use the carrier's voicemail....and there is no other option, so it is not really a "default" at all. A "default" would imply that there are other options. There aren't.

Were you thinking that you could somehow set up your own voicemail? You can't.

Hmm, good to know.

What Has been happening is that messages will occaisionally go straight to voicemail…I wont get any notification that it took place, and in order see if I have a message, I have to click on “call”….listen to all the prompts, and hear if I have missed a call.

What I am hoping for, is to have it appear much like my wifes phone appears, where it is line listed. I compared my phone settings to hers, and they are set the same.

This is what she views:

If you have the "Silence Unknown Callers" option enabled on your phone, a call from someone who is not in your contact list will go straight to voicemail, so you won't even hear the call coming in.

But, back to your original question again......even if you could, why would you want to remove the carrier voicemail feature.....which would not allow any caller to leave a message?

You might want to contact your carrier and ask them if they have a "fact sheet" for voicemail, so you can gain a better understanding of this feature.
