MacBook Pro M4 Over Heating Issue

Hey everyone!

I’ve been using my MacBook Pro M4 (16GB RAM, 512GB SSD) for the past month, and I’ve noticed that the bottom part of the laptop gets extremely hot during regular use. This has happened about 7 to 8 times in one month. The strange thing is, I’m not doing anything heavy—just running basic apps like Chrome, Slack, Skype, Dolphin Anty (Proxy Browser), and Apploye (Time Tracking Software).

One major thing I’ve noticed is that the “replayd” process is consuming a lot of CPU, even after force quitting it. I’m wondering if this could be causing the overheating. I also updated macOS a few days ago, so I’m not sure if it’s related.

To investigate further, I ran a game (Sniper Elite 4, ~16GB), and during gameplay, my device became extremely hot. This seems unusual for a device like this.

Has anyone else experienced a similar issue? Any ideas on how to fix it?

Check the game is rated for the computer's mobile graphics chip. If it isn't, then assume it only works on desktop computers.

Don't use it in an area where people smoke.

Shut down the computer before traveling with it.

Call AppleCare to have it inspected for either too much gel on the CPU or dust collecting on the fan.

Gel which is used to cool down computers can often in abundance become an insulator.

Stuff stuck in the vents of the computer can cause it to overheat too. Very carefully with a plastic toothpick you can remove things as long as they don't go deeper into the computer.

Don't leave it on fabric surfaces or surfaces where heat doesn't dissipate well.
