Macbook pro 2016 running very slow

Hi all,

My 2016, two thunderbolt dual core intel i5 macbook pro is running very slow. Once I open more than 3 applications, it just slows down. I can't get the same speed as before and am forced to shut down the laptop.

I followed the advice from here by Apple- If your Mac runs slowly - Apple Support (SG)

I cleared a lot of items and was able to free up a lot of space from the SSD. I have a few screenshots of my activity monitor if it helps. An observation I have made is when I open a lot of tabs on chrome, it becomes very slow. Currently I am on MacOS Monterey 12.7.6.

Sometimes when watching a video, it just stutters and I am forced to shut it down by pressing and holding the power button.

I don't know what should I do to make it less slower. I see much older mac's still running fast and strong but not mine. I am not very technical as well, I will need some extra help if something is related to using terminal.

Please do let me know what to do, I would like to keep this machine running fast for much longer

Thanks!

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 12.7

Chrome on the Mac is THE biggest resource hog that is not obvious malware.

Some senior contributors here go so far as to say, if you Must run Chrome, you should buy a ChromeBook to run it on.

Others on that list include: ANY third-party speeder-uppers, Cleaners, Optimizers, or Virus scanners, Bit Torrent, or a VPN that you installed yourself.
