How do I restore missing app icons after updating to macOS 15.3.1?

Just updated to Mac OS 15.3.1 and after several days of sorting things out, suddenly this morning app icons have gone missing. First noticed on the dock, but later also in launchpad. The app name is there, I can click on the place the icon should be and the app launches, it is just that most of my apps now seem to have invisible icons. WTH? How can a make my icons visible again?

Not sure I know what is " this morning app icons"...(?)

this is a little troubling "after several days of sorting things out (?)" for a simply "update"

for missing icons— Have you shut down and rebooted more than once, and no resolve...

A SafeBoot Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support will sort many anomalies

Login and test. Reboot as normal and test. Caches get rebuilt automatically.

I stumbled upon the cure: multiple restarts didn't help, but a restart in safe mode cured the issue. Onward with the upgrades and fixes!

Not sure why @leroydouglas had trouble with "this morning app icons." But to explain try pausing for a couple seconds between "this morning" and "app icons." I meant that "this morning" I suddenly had "app icons" that weren't behaving.

Anyway, thank you for the suggestion to use safe mode.
