How do I use MacBook Air in Sleep mode/Clamshell mode with an external display?

My screen on my MacBook Air broke, it still produces 3/4 of the screen, but I want to close it and use my big display monitor only. How can I put my MacBook Air in sleep mode or clamshell mode and just use the big display?

Mac Air M2 display stops working, External display is fine. My Mac Air just stops displaying to its own screen, probably 2-3 times a week. It usually happens when I walk away from the desk, so I'm guessing it might be triggered by some kind of sleep mode. The external display works fine though, and I've now configured it as my main display just so I can reboot cleanly from this situation. I can't get the native display back except by rebooting. Any thoughts?

remote monitor needs replug after sleep Every time my macbook awakes from sleep I need to unplug and replug in the external (apple) monitor to get it to display.
