Astound — incorrect instructions for connecting email account to IMAP

Just spent an hour on the phone with Astound rep. I directed her to Astound’s written instructions for how to connect last updated 2/10/2025 and that did not work. See astound-prod.mindtouch.us I again followed these instructions (this time with rep on the phone) and the server could not be found. My Astound email account (transferred from WOW to Astound) is currently connected as POP. As an experiment, I deleted the connected POP email account and then added it back on as a POP account but using the Astound instructions. They did not work — server could not be found. I suggested to the rep that this suggests the Astound instructions are incorrect in saying the incoming host name should be pop.rcn.com instead of what I was using and worked (mail.astound.net), and outgoing host server should be smtp.rcn.com. I have never had an RCN email account. The rep ultimately told me to call Apple to find the server. I read another post about Astound and Apple reps pointing to the other in a similar situation. After the call, I played with this more and was finally able to connect to IMAP by disregarding the Astound instructions. I did it this way: (1) when adding the account, insert the wrong email address initially. This causes the device to show both POP and IMAP options instead of defaulting to POP (with no option to select IMAP). (2) After selecting IMAP, correct the email password. Insert the incoming host name as mail.astound.net (3) Go to “Outgoing Mail Server”. Next to SMTP, type mail.astound.net Then “Done”. The phone will cycle for a long time but mine eventually connected to outgoing server port 587 (Astound says the most common server is 25 but 557 is also enabled) and incoming server port 993 (this is what Astound shows for IMAP). If this doesn’t work, try doing a POP setup first and then manually changing the outgoing server to 557 (once connected, you can backspace over the port shown — mine was 465 which is outdated but apparently still works but perhaps caused a problem with the IMAP connection. Now that I’m connected to IMAP, I’ll see how the syncing works. If it does, I’ll try to the same process for my other Astound email accounts.
