Touch-and-hold any empty area of a Home Screen. When the icons "wobble", touch the Edit button that will be visible at the top-left corner of the screen; this will open an Action Menu...

From the menu, select Customise. Insofar as associated controls are available, you will now be able to select your preferred icon colours:

  • Light - All icons are shown in their default "light" colours
  • Dark - All icons are shown in their "dark" colours
  • Automatic - Home Screen icons will automatically change between Light and Dark colours at per your iPad's Display & Brightness Appearance setting
  • Tinted - Home Screen icon colours can be customised

Otherwise, if the screen colours appear to be distorted or unnatural, or everything is black-and-white/greyscale, you need to check some key Accessibility settings that are intended to compensate for specific colour-vision issues:

Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size

Ensure that all settings enclosed within the red box above are switched OFF/Disabled.

Otherwise, depending upon your installed version of iOS/iPadOS, you’ll need to look at your Dark Mode settings:

Settings > Display & Brightness > [Appearance]
