How do I set Gmail as default email on iPhone 16e?

Itr's a new 16e. We never had this problem on previous SE generation 1 or 2 models. I have the Gmail app on the phone, though that never mattered before. I have enabled Gmail as default in Settings-apps-default apps, Settings-apps-Gmail, and Settings-apps-Mail. All are set to use Gmail as the default mail. My phone still keeps sending mail from the icloud address. We also got a new 16e for my wife and it doing the same thing.

Restarting the iphone seemed to resolve this. I will try this on my wife's phone when she returns.

Follow the below steps,

- Settings App

- Apps

- Mail

- Scroll to last, "Default Account". Select Gmail.

Force Close Mail app,

Please Note:- Compose a new email from the Mailboxes screen, rather than from any individual mailbox.

When composing an email, I can select the From address and have the option to change to @gmail.com, but the next composition will revert to icloud. How can I convince my phones I want to use Gmail?

Thank you. That worked. I was using the first default account choice. Much lower down is another default choice.
