(SOLVED) iPhone Mirroring: iOS May Apply the Wrong Keyboard Layout (US/UK) When Typing from Mac

Issue:

When using iPhone Mirroring to type on an iPhone from a Mac, iOS may not apply the expected keyboard layout. Instead, it appears to default to a US/UK layout, even if the Mac’s keyboard is different.

Example:

  • The Mac has a non-US/UK keyboard.
  • The iPhone is set with either (and/or):
    • a different keyboard from the one on the Mac ;
    • multiple keyboards in various languages, with one or more layouts ;
    • a bilingual keyboard.
  • When typing via iPhone Mirroring, iOS seems to apply a US/UK keyboard layout, causing unexpected characters to appear.

A Possible Solution: Adjusting iPhone Keyboards in a Specific Order

  1. Adding the native iOS keyboard that matches the Mac’s physical layout (single-language, not bilingual).
  2. Removing all other native iOS keyboards (bilingual and single-language). This could ensure a correct mapping.
  3. Testing iPhone Mirroring at this stage might indicate whether the keyboard layout issue is resolved.
  4. (Optional) Adding back other keyboards (bilingual, additional languages) after verifying functionality.

Following these steps appears to help in cases where iPhone Mirroring does not respect the Mac’s keyboard layout.
