How to prevent duplicate photo copies when transferring from iPhone to external drive using Image Capture on Mac?

I back up my iPhone photos to an external drive. On Microsoft it alerted me if I was creating any duplicates but MacBook just makes another copy and gives it a 1.jpg file name. As I back up each month I end up with lots of copies. It’s annoying. Any ideas please?

I am certainly unclear on your details...

I see reference to this app— https://imazing.com/

see if it gives you more control for what you are doing...

Thanks Leroy. iMazing wasn’t an option in the App Store. I manually put the iPhone photos as a list next to the list on my external hard drive and selected the photos I hadn’t copied the the hard drive. This will work if I go by date but not if an image has an earlier date.

?

if that is your criteria, you are limiting yourself...

many quality applications avoid the App store for the restrictions and rules, that hobble functionality.

If I had a choice to down load from a developers website compared to the app on the App Store — I always choose the developers website.

good luck !
