Random notification sounds but no actual notification

I have an iPhone SE 2020. Every hour or so (not on a specific time) the phone will make a notification sound (or vibrate if on silent) but there's no actual notification to view. This consistently happens every hour or so. It's the "default alert, rebound" sound in settings. I have gone through all settings to make sure banners/sounds are consistent and deleted all apps installed in the last 3 months since I bought the phone (second hand) but no luck. It's incredibly frustrating and not sure how to resolve it. I will get a new phone if needed but not sure if the issue will just transfer to the new phone. I'm on iOS 18.3.1.

It cannot be random. Try to find out when do you get notification sound? Under which circumstances for e.g.

  • When Locked or Unlocked
  • When on DND or Bed Time
  • When your Text app is open or closed
  • When your ringer is silent or enabled
  • For a particular contact for all
  • For VIP (Favourite) Contacts or all.

When an issue on an iPhone occurs randomly or cannot be consistently reproduced, it can be challenging to pinpoint the exact cause. In such cases, it’s helpful to carefully track certain details that could provide valuable clues.

Take note of the following:

  • Recently downloaded apps: Which apps were recently installed or updated from the App Store?
  • Currently running apps: What apps are actively running when the issue happens?
  • Shortcut automations: Are there any custom automations set up in the Shortcuts app that could be affecting system behavior?
  • Location: Does the issue occur at a specific place, like home, work, or when connected to a particular Wi-Fi network or Bluetooth device?
  • Timing: Is there a particular time of day when the issue starts, or does it follow any specific schedule?
  • Triggers: What specific actions seem to set off the issue—like opening a certain app, connecting an accessory, or changing a setting?

Documenting these details can go a long way in identifying patterns and ultimately diagnosing the root cause of the problem.

Expressing or conveying auditory experiences effectively through these forums may be challenging. The underlying sound issue on your iPhone cannot be accurately diagnosed from a YouTube link. Factors such as your iPhone's specific sound settings, visual defects, and potential hardware problems cannot be assessed through this method. For more personalized and in-depth assistance, I recommend securing a Genius Bar Reservation and exploring the various support options provided by Apple.
