used my apple ID and my other family members' IDs but it still says it belongs to another account. we tried to reset it but it continues to say it's connected elsewhere.

Unfortunately, resetting the AirTag will not resolve this. Only the owner of the Apple Account, that this tag is associated with, can remove it. If you don't know whom that may be, then this tag will be useless to you. No one here, nor Apple can assist you with this as this tag is now Activation Locked.
