How to update AirPods firmware to the latest version?

my AirPods firmware version is 4E71...I have tried to update it to the latest version but have been unsuccessful how to fix it

If you can’t update your firmware, reset your AirPods, then try to update your firmware again. You can find more information here:

Update your AirPods or AirPods Pro firmware


  1. Make sure that your iPhone, iPad, or Mac is updated to the latest version of iOS, iPadOS, or macOS.
  2. Make sure that your AirPods are in Bluetooth range of your iPhone, iPad, or Mac that's connected to Wi-Fi.
  3. Connect your charging case to power.
  4. Put your AirPods in their charging case and close the lid.
  5. Keep the lid of the charging case closed, and wait at least 30 minutes for the firmware to update.
  6. Open the lid of the charging case to reconnect your AirPods to your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
  7. Check the firmware version again.

If you did all this and they still will not update, then you need to contact Apple Support. Or you may want to make an appointment at your local Apple Store's Genius Bar. Genius Bar Reservation and Apple Support Options - Apple
