2007 IMac DVI port, can’t find the correct cable?

I have a 2007 iMac here that still works well, but is stuck on Ubuntu software (absolutely useless apart from Google and YouTube), so I was hoping to use it as a monitor as the display is still very up to date.

i have brought a mini display to hdmi cable, however the mini display is the correct shape but about 2mm too small around all sides.

how do I connect my MacBook display to my IMac if this cable no longer exists anywhere online? I have spent weeks on and off looking for the cable.

screen share doesn’t work due to the iMac running Ubuntu, and not allowing anything IOS at all.

You can't. The mini-DVI port on that 2007 iMac is only for output. It's to let you attach an external display to the iMac. One with a maximum resolution of 1920x1200 pixels (digital) or 2048x1536 pixels (analog).

Mini DisplayPort and Mini DVI are different things.

You may still be able to get a few Mini DVI adapters, e.g. StarTech – Mini DVI to HDMI Video Adapter for MacBooks and iMacs – M/F . This adapter might let you use a 1080p TV or computer monitor as a second screen for the 2007 iMac. It would not let you use the 2007 iMac as a display.
