maximise / fill screen with window - HELP ME PLEASE!?!

I have Macs for 30 years or so .... for as long as I can remember I have option clicked on the 3rd button to maximise a window to fill the screen - without going fullscreen.

This has now changed for some reason!?

Can anyone tell me how I can still do this?

I use the double click to minimise a window to the doc.

I have two external screens and I use the MacBook screen as a third.

I am spending half my working day resizing windows as I move them around etc...

please help me.

You can’t recover Zoom (there is no Maximize) on the green dot. You can set the system to Zoom the window by double-clicking the Title Bar in Desktop & Dock System Settings.

good grief - I was concerned about that. I just hope they change it back on the next release ... I use double click title to minimise - always have done. not sure I can cope with two things changing!?

You might as well consider it gone for good. Option clicking should still zoom. Or, hover, and click the full screen under "Fill and Arrange." The latter provides for what would be considered "maximize." Zoom still Zooms.

I don't have those options as they only work with 'displays have seperate spaces' which I never got on with ... but I guess I might to try again.
