Changing Restrictions Pin / Passcode

How do I change the restrictions pin if I forget it? I know there are some ways like resetting the ipad and restoring it, but I don’t want to possibly lose my data on some apps. For me, there is no “reset password” button when you click on “change password” , it only says “delete password” (something like that) or “change password.” It’s not helpful. If anyone finds a way to help me, please do.

If you have forgotten the ScreenTime passcode, the procedures outlined within this link should resolve the problem:

If you forgot your Screen Time passcode - Apple Support

If your iPad is capable of supporting iPadOS 13.x or later, you should update to the most current version before attempting to resolve a forgotten ScreenTime passcode. The most recent iPadOS updates have introduced a mechanism whereby a forgotten ScreenTime passcode can be reset without wiping the iPad.

To reset a forgotten ScreenTime passcode on older versions of iOS/iPadOS, the iPad must be complete reset “as new”, losing all locally stored data:

Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content & Settings

In this situation, you’ll not be able to restore your data from an iCloud or iTunes backup - as the forgotten passcode is integral to the backup.

There is an option to reset the Screen Time Passcode and that is when you set it up on the device. You are given the option to provide an Apple ID/Password in case you forget the Passcode. If you skip that step, you are given a final warning that says a AppleID/Password will be needed for you to reset the Passcode. That is what needs to be done to give you the option to reset the Passcode using the provided link if not using Family Sharing.

Since the screen time passcode is used to place restrictions on a device, it would not make since to be able to use that Apple ID/Password to reset it, otherwise the user of the device could bypass the restrictions by entering their own AppleID/Password and there would be no need to have a Passcode in the first place. When using Family Sharing, the Organizer of the plan can reset the Passcode.
