How do I fix lag and spinning wheel after updating MacBook Air with Apple Intelligence?

I updated the system on a Mac Air that was working perfectly fine. Now, everything I do has a lag and I get the spinning wheel all the time. I get lags typing this message right now.

I would like to go back, but I doubt that's possible. This started when I turned on AI. So I turned it back off but the damage was done.

Be warned.

Have you shut down and restarted more than once since you update...

That seems to have fixed it. Thanks.

Maybe include that in the instructions so folks like me don't end up frustrated and annoyed.

Good computing John Barkdull1 !

Shut down and restart is always the first try in an effort to sort an issue.

OK, further use of the Mac shows the problem is not as bad but not entirely gone. The cursor disappears for up to 20 seconds or so, and it gets stuck in one spot. The spinning wheel still shows up from time to time. Typing hangs up, and I have to wait for the letters to appear to move on. This happens online and in Pages.

The Mac is more usable but not working as well as it did before the update.

I guess I'll keep shutting down and restarting. Maybe the problem will go away.
