So I found a scanning app called "Image Capture" on the App Store and this app works GREAT. And it's free. Scans perfectly.
It’s AirPrint capable, as well as other paths. Which means it can usually avoid needing vendor drivers.
There’s firmware from last year as well, 08/22/2024 (L). Is that firmware loaded here?

Image Capture app is part of macOS, and works with most TWAIN printers.
I don’t see a Brother MFC-J4680 listed, but do see an HP OfficeJet J4680. The HP OfficeJet J4680 is rather old.
It is Brother MFC-J4680DW. And it's been discontinued. I bought a Factory Refurbished unit on eBay...
