connect Samsung display to MacBook Air 15" running Sequoia 15.3.2

I have connected the laptop to the apple adaptor in order to receive the HDMI cord and connected the cord to the Samsung 27" display. (Model #S27D806EAN)

I see my desktop on the new display, but I cannot control with my mouse or track pad, nor can I see my dock or any "apps" that I have opened such as Photos.

I have gone to system settings, display, and adjusted all the options. What am I missing?

Your display is set to extend your laptop display.

Click the “Arrange…” button to define the relative positions of the two displays (for example if the external is physically on the left side of your laptop, drag its representative in the Arrange window to that side).

Then you just move your pointer off the edge of one display and it will be on the other.

If, on the other hand, you were expecting your external display to mirror your laptop display then choose mirror instead of extended display
