Printer driver for Canon PIXMA MX885 and macOS 15.x

Hi all,

I have a Canon PIXMA MX885 and it's running fine with macOS 15.x using the MX880 series CUPS printer driver v.16.10.0.0 (Mac) which is for macOS 10.12 (Sierra). There's no newer driver for newer macOS releases available: PIXMA MX885 - Support – Laden Sie Treiber, Software und Handbücher herunterladen - Canon Deutschland

So I often get the information that this driver won't be compatible with future macOS versions. Is there any other solution to keep the printer useable with macOS 16 and newer? Will a linux based print server with CUPS help to use this printer without a driver installtion on macOS?

This isn't related to speculation. Yes, macOS 16 isn't released yet. But I asked for a solution how to keep a printer with old driver software running when it's not supported on macOS any more. So macOS 16 and newer is an example. Some other users may have older printers and the driver software doesn't work on macOS 15.x.
